Movie Trailer: Alita Battle Angel

At long last, a trailer has shown up. I thought this was in development hell since this was planned since the year 2000. There was very little news about the production, and suddenly a trailer shows up. The movie is directed by Robert Rodriguez, well known for this work on Sin City, From Dusk Till Dawn and Spy Kids. Written by James Cameron, Robert Rodriguez and Laeta Elizabeth Kalogridis. Produced by James Cameron, well known for Avatar, Titanic, Terminator, True Lies and Aliens.

The movie is based on a manga called “Battle Angel Alita” or “Gunnm” (in Japan). Written by Yukito Kishiro.

Currently Tinkering: Hitfilm 4 Express

I got Hitfilm 4 Express last year, but never got into experimenting it until recently. I used to use the old ever reliable Microsoft Movie Maker. Why? Because I really didn’t have time to do some editing of my own, especially with the work I do Captain’s Sweet Galley, making basically simple image slides. At some point I really wanted to do something more. I really didn’t like the idea that I can’t put up logos on my video on Movie Maker, and the text feature is just bothersome.

So, I actually tried other video editing software, like Lightworks. But I had problems with their registration especially when I had to reformat my computer recently. Eventually I got to try Hitfilm 4 Express. Why I tried it? Because I really didn’t want to download Movie Maker anymore since it’s an outdated program and I really wanted something more.

My first experimental video, a friend of mine brought his boardgames. We take videos of unboxing them, but I really had a hard time getting time to actually edit one, especially I rarely had any free time myself. At first I really didn’t know what to do, so I held it off for a while. Until one day, I had to compile a bunch of home made videos in a matter of hours. And, I really didn’t have time to download Movie Maker, so it gave me the opportunity to experiment with Hitfilm 4 Express.

I know this application has been designed as an alternative to Adobe Afer Effects. I haven’t used After Effects but it seems surprisingly powerful. I haven’t tried composing effects yet, but Hitfilm has a lot of them. Most of them are paid though, come to think of it, I think all of them are. But if you can make your own effects, you are welcome to compose your own effects. It reminds me of playing around with Adobe/Macromedia Flash. And since this is video, I’m happy that the output is going to be smoother than it was in Flash regardless of how much animation I put into a scene.

The video below is a basic video editing, no composing to speak of, but I was able to do what I wanted to do. I want to do more now.

There are tons of tutorials on how to use Hitfilm Express and it’s really impressive what it can do. It is close or equal to high end video editing programs. If you want a good quality video editor, I highly recommend people to try this out.

Download Hitfim Express below.

Shenmue III Teaser Trailer

At long last, we officially have a sequel to look forward to. Shenmue was released in 1999, while Shenmue II was released in 2001. This game was very unique at the time, although I’m pretty sure it’s tame by today’s standards regardless of how much I enjoyed it long ago, but Shenmue ended with a cliffhanger. This wouldn’t have been made without crowdfunding for sure. A lot of people really wanted this game to push through just to see how it all ends, or even continue. This game actually wanted multiple chapters (not just 3), but lets see if that actually pushes though. It all depends if people enjoys this new one. Looking forward to see this.

Currently Playing: Path of Exile

I’ve been a while since I posted anything new. I’ve been very busy lately, since I’ve been getting into a board games and taking care of our family business. Anyway, I’ll be quick in posting this for now. I’ve been trying to find time to play lately, since it feels like a while since I played a proper game. But for now, I’ll be posting some pictures but no review for now. Here’s what I’ve been playing lately which is Path of Exile. I’ve registered to this game before when it was in Beta, but I didn’t last too long since I was playing other games at the time. Recently I got curious when I suddenly wanted to play Diablo III again, but since I only had the PS3 version I can’t do any updates. I was not interested in playing Torchlight II at the moment.

So, I downloaded Path of Exile, to my surprise, just a few days before the new 3.0 update which will introduce the game with more acts than the original. The total is 10 acts, which is a lot. Compared to Diablo III which has 4 or Torchlight II which only has 3. So far, I’m actually enjoying it. I’ll post more when I have the time.

Gaming News: King’s Quest “The Vision” Behind the Scenes

It’s been a while since we least heard of King’s Quest, good news that there is an update via a behind the scenes video.

The original King’s Quest has been an inspiration to so many gamers and game developers. It came out at a time that video games on the PC were so in the early stages of PC games. I remember playing this on a green monochrome monitor. Using a piece of graphing paper to track all my movements in the land of Daventry.  I’m so excited to see the new game, it’s about time. I wonder if Wing Commander and Ultima will ever come back.

If you are not familiar with King’s Quest, you can check out the original game here.

Movie News: A closer look at the Batmobile

Batman v Superman still has a year to go, but so far a lot of people are excited to see the movie. So am I. The Batmobile has been a big part of Batman. The car itself is a character. I can’t wait to see it in action.

If you are a fan of Batman, you have to get the chance to see the Batmobile Documentary.

And how about the Batmobile in the upcoming Arkham Knight. To tell you the truth, the Arkham Knight batmobile looks a lot like a smaller but bulkier version of the one in Batman v Superman.
